The General Skilled Migration Visa is most suitable for you if you are planning to permanently work and live in Australia. Employers in Australia can employ 482 visa applicants under the Employer Nomination scheme and Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme.
Employer Nomination Scheme
Under the Direct Entry Scheme, applicants must achieve a suitable result from a skills assessment with the relevant authority. Recent work experience is required in the occupation nominated. The nominated occupation must be listed in the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MTSSL). A permanent residency pathway for current 482 visa holders is provided for through the Temporary Residence Transition Stream.

Key requirements under the Short Term, Medium Term and Labour Agreement streams:
Employee sponsorship – applicants must be nominated by an approved business sponsor.
Minimum salary/market salary rate – salary rate paid by employers must be above the TSMIT (Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold), of $53, 900.
Mandatory Labour Market Testing – unless international treaty obligations apply, employers are required to demonstrate they have made an effort to source workers from the local labour market first.
Discrimination Test – employers will be tested to ensure that they are not discriminating against the local labour market.
Skilling Australians Fund – employers must contribute to this fund.
English Language – all 482 visa applicants must meet the minimum requirements of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or equivalent test.
Work Experience – 2 years work experience relating to the nominated occupation.
Applicants must demonstrate they have relevant qualifications and skills to perform their nominated application.
Character Test –all 482 visa applicants are required to pass a character test, and provide mandatory penal clearances certificates.
The 482 Visa has a short term, medium term and Labour Agreement stream.
1. Short term Stream – 482 Visa
Australia.
Under this stream, you will be able to live and work in Australia for 2 years. Case holders must be satisfied that you a genuine temporary entrant and you may only renew this visa once, while you are onshore in Australia.
2. Medium Term Stream – 482 Visa
Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). There are extra occupations on this list in regional Australia.
Under this stream, you will be able to live and work in Australia for up to 4 years. You may apply for permanent residency after 3 years on your 482 Visa.
3. Labour Agreement Stream – 482 Visa.

Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS)
The 482 Visa has a short term, medium term and Labour Agreement stream.
The RSMS allows employers in Regional Australia to fill skilled positions for permanent full-time job vacancies, which they are unable to fill from the local labour market. To be eligible applicants must:
1. Possess relevant qualifications,
2. Be under 45 years of age
3. Have acceptable English language skills. There may be a successful skills assessment and higher English language results required for certain occupations. It is a requirement for the applicant’s occupation to be listed on the ROL (Regional Occupation List)
